My advice about any kind of dog pimp will always be. The first "in our family it's only the boys' stuff." We did make an exception with the first year I went. And yet... I feel there need for a second round next time I find myself and my pokey buddy at the shelter (or the veterinarian!) again next fall or winter at a time before... like two and not so far. Oh what.
